What modern actually means in joinery
Modern is not a colour; it is a set of decisions about edges. Handle-free shutters, aligned reveals, continuous horizontal lines and very few materials in the same field of view. The look is calm because the detail count is low — but a low detail count is unforgiving, because any misalignment is the only thing left to notice.
Why the tolerances matter more here
A J-groove profile only reads well if the gap is even along its full length, and a run of push-to-open shutters only looks flush if the carcass is square and the floor is level. This is why we measure the room as built and manufacture to those numbers instead of to nominal sizes. In this style, precision is the design.
Keeping it warm rather than clinical
A strictly white, hard-edged interior looks severe under strong coastal daylight. We usually bring in one wood tone — a veneer panel, an oak-effect laminate on a base run — and one textured surface to soften the reflection. The geometry stays modern; the room stays livable.
